Redundancy, Resiliency, and Cybersecurity Oh My! Get Used to Hearing About The Service Connectivity Layer.

As a technology leader, I frequently engage in conversations with peers, program managers, and executives about security, disaster recovery, and operational efficiency options for their enterprises.

Recently, a discussion about disaster recovery for cloud-based apps and services led to the topic of Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Version-controlled IaC, used to set up infrastructure resources, offers a fast and repeatable deployment methodology. It’s often referred to as “immutable and reproducible” because once IaC is deployed, it doesn’t change. Instead, a new resource stack is generated with each redeployment of infrastructure and apps/services.

IaC has become standard as enterprises adopt cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructures, with teams evolving from traditional networking roles to platform teams. But did the conversation end too soon? Here’s my challenge to technology leaders: you must combine efficient recovery through IaC with resiliency and assured operational control, not just for infrastructure, but also for applications, APIs, and services. Without this, when restoring or scaling to additional instances, there’s a risk that access policies are overlooked and that audited communication between apps/services is lacking, which can create an exploitable endpoint—a vulnerability where attacks, improper access, or data compromise can occur.

In my experience, discussions around enterprise IT architecture often focus heavily on infrastructure, network security, and storage solutions. While critical, let’s not overlook service connectivity—especially when enterprises need full visibility into transactions across layers 4-7. API security is a shared responsibility across several roles in an organization and in previous roles, I’ve experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to determine if downtime was caused by network infrastructure or the applications and services themselves. Today, service connectivity is providing that clarity in those environments, and its importance is only growing as enterprises adopt zero-trust models.

This is where enterprises can leverage Greymatter’s newly branded Zero Trust Networking Platform provides service connectivity and orchestration for cloud, hybrid cloud, and edge networks. It ensures services remain discoverable and reachable, allows real-time network configuration adjustments, and maintains access policies and audit integrity during failover events or periods of hyper-growth.

This approach addresses the very issues that keep CISOs up at night, such as routing control, security, and observability. Simultaneously, CIOs aim to stay agile while maintaining robust security and compliance. For both CISOs and CIOs, achieving this balance is increasingly challenging as distributed applications span multiple environments. I witness this dilemma daily, which is why the Greymatter ZTN platform is so critical to deploy.

Greymatter.io tackles these challenges, delivering benefits across productivity, operational efficiency, and network security. The platform simplifies and abstracts the management of service interactions within the network architecture. DevOps teams, network engineers, and platform teams are already utilizing the Greymatter ZTN platform for container-based Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) deployments, native cloud setups, and low-latency environments. Cybersecurity teams recognize the Greymatter ZTN platform as a crucial element of enterprise architecture, enabling secure, permitted communication and authentication between resources. Just ask our customers—they’re seeing real results.

With the deployment of the Greymatter ZTN platform, CIOs and CISOs gain full control over application, API, and service interactions, making compliance and security easier to manage across hybrid or multi-cloud environments.

With over two decades of experience in this sector, I’ve seen the challenges and the amazing results a full ZTN can deliver. Let’s talk more about your enterprise needs, reach out to us at connect@greymatter.io.
